AIRCRAFTS AND SEEDBALLS TO REGREEN THE SAHEL
OUR MISSION
Driven by a burning desire to make a significant difference in the fight against desertification, our founders have devised a unique and promising solution. We lean on a fleet of gyrocopters equipped with dropping machines, data processing stations and, above all, Seedballs.
A FLEET OF AIRCRAFTS TO SAVE THE SAHEL
GYROCOPTERS AS EMISSARIES OF LIFE
Each gyrocopter can launch hundreds of kilos of Seedballs per day, equivalent to thousands of trees. Our aircrafts fly over arid expanses, degraded lands and remote areas, releasing these little capsules of hope en masse. Protected from the elements and predators, the seeds inside the Seedballs wait patiently for the rainy season to germinate, offering a much improved survival rate over traditional methods.
The key to our approach lies in Seedballs, a seeding technique from the depths of time that has the potential to transform reforestation as we know it.
SEEDBALLS? WHAT'S SEEDBALLS?
Seedballs are seeds wrapped in a protective mixture of charcoal, soil and nutrients. This envelope offers essential protection to the seeds. It protects them from granivores and extreme climatic variations, and gives them a more robust start to their growth. Used in Kenya, Australia and Côte d'Ivoire, Seedballs have already proved their worth in major reforestation projects.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Great Green Wall is a pan-African initiative to combat desertification by creating a continuous green belt of vegetation across the African continent, from Senegal to Djibouti, in order to restore degraded land, promote food security and support the livelihoods of local populations.
BSI NAVIGATOR: PATENTED TECHNOLOGY
The BSI Navigator combines an on-board release system on our gyrocopters with a data processing station. It enables us to drop Seedballs with precision, seeding large areas efficiently and accurately. We are therefore able to track each release via GPS data in real time. This precise tracking enables us to collect data vital to the plant growth process, helping our funding partners to evaluate our actions on a daily basis.
The BSI NAVIGATOR establishes release polygons, guiding our pilots, and calculates the number of Seedballs released along the route.
PATIENCE PATIENCE!
After releasing the Seedballs, we let nature take its course. With the arrival of the rainy season, the Seedballs begin to grow, rooting out the beginnings of a new life. Trees begin to emerge, gradually transforming degraded land into a living, thriving ecosystem.
